How long will an aquatic turtle last after buying it from the pet store?

travel water filter
kissmeimdutch asked:

I was thinking of purchasing a red ear slider turtle but I have a few questions:

When a turtle is bought, how long is okay for it to go without water? (by travel, etc.)

Also, is it absolutely necessary to keep it in a glass terrarium with a water filter? Or can I make a little terrarium out of a plastic one, making a realistic habitat, and changing the water frequently?

If I accidentally stored my Berkey black filter elements wet, are they unusable?

travel water filter
Sarah M asked:

I have a travel Berkey water filtration system. I put the filter away for a few months, and when I got it out again, a rust-colored, mildew-appearing substance had grown on the outside of the black filtration elements. What do I have to do to make them usable again, or should I buy new ones?

could I travel with live fish in an ice chest with my filter plugged into an adaptar running off car battery?

travel water filter
brod515 asked:

Would that work, if i had enough water in the ice chest to completely cover the sucking part of the filter. It would be one of those external power filters. I would just hang it off the side of the ice chest.
i think i might line the sides of the ice chests with ziploc bags filled with water and little bit of air for cushion, and weights inside the bags to keep em sunk
just a 48 quart ice chest
