This distiller was made from materials that I had handy. The sheetmetal was folded to make a drain tray and also the main body. Marine or exterior plywood could have been used instead. The glass panel was from an old window (measures 870 x 810mm, but other sizes can be used) After folding the sheetmetal and making the two side panels, all were riveted together with pop rivets and then painted black inside and out to help absorb more heat. The joints were then sealed with silicone sealant, tested for leaks and a drain hose fitted as close to the bottom of the drain tray as possible. A 25mm hole was made in the back panel about halfway up to add tap water (could be saltwater too). The glass panel is added last and sealed with silicone sealant to prevent any water vapour escaping. For South Australian conditions, place the distiller with the glass panel facing North-West. On a warm spring day you can expect between 1 and 5 litres of production, on a summers day more.

Geez, you show a long clip of the water collecting but not much else. At least the plans are on the right.

couldn’t the back door have hinges, or a small ‘window’ so you could use this for a solar cooker also? i really like this idea!!!
thank you for posting.

what type of computer generates that music ? LOL i want one .
February 9th, 2010 at 5:09 am
It was computer generated music, no track ID.
February 11th, 2010 at 6:24 pm
haha , what’s up with you playing some NICE underground house 1994 type in the background ?
track id please

Obama wants to make organic food illegal. I wonder if the NWO will make distilled water hard to get since colloidal silver is an excellent anti-virus / anti-bacteria agent. And no, I haven’t turned blue… but I have got on the better side of the ‘compromised immune system’ thing and chemtrail stuffs. (Hmmm
nice.)

maybe you could shine mirrors onto it to make it more efficient

How long can it take to fill a gallon?
February 17th, 2010 at 8:53 am
yes but for people like my brother who needs distilled water for triops isnt going to build this just for a few pints of ditsilled water
February 20th, 2010 at 9:33 am
Yes but technicaly using sunlight is still boiling the water in to steam. i was specificaly vauge to allow the reader of my comment to decidet the best way to boil the water, whether it be to use sunlight or other forms of heat.
February 20th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
Boiling water costs energy – sun power is free – distilled water is automatically collected with this system – no moving parts, nothing to replace – will even produce distilled water without adding any water because it will take water vapour from the air (slower that way, but still works)
February 23rd, 2010 at 7:53 am
All you do is boil water and catch the steam. the steam will then condense in to distilled water.
February 24th, 2010 at 11:57 pm
but how do u actually make it??
February 26th, 2010 at 10:19 pm
well, I hope you’re right and I hope I don’t turn blue, because I’m intending on making a distiller very similar to the one shown here lol.
I was thinking. The fact that it’s water from evaporation, surely would make it very pure, providing the insides of the distiller were very clean? I would have thought so anyway.
Although my project isn’t looking very promising going by our lack of sun here in the UK…….lets hope it still works?

I don’t know why you couldn’t use it for the making of colloidal silver, it is after all just distilled water formed from evaporation.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:26 am
can you use this distilled water to make colloidal silver?
March 5th, 2010 at 2:34 pm

How long do you think it would take to fill that bottle on a sunny day?

What is HHO?
March 12th, 2010 at 1:48 pm
drink it…its lovely…. have been drinking it for over ten years….
March 16th, 2010 at 12:51 am
I agree, but where i’m from in Northern California, the water is pure. We get it straight out of the springs, and it only needs treated maybe twice a year. Best tasting water on the planet. (in my opinion)
March 17th, 2010 at 4:27 pm
Unfortunately, moch of the world’s drinking water isn’t clean (even 1st world places like California – especially California), so the point of distillation would be to reap clean water.
March 18th, 2010 at 12:04 am
Distilled water is required for the use of hydrogen generator cells. You can bought it at the supermarket or make it yourself for nothing.
March 21st, 2010 at 7:33 am
Okay, so what exactly are you distilling? I understand water. But what would be the point of distilling water? Are you making whiskey or something?
